Twitter this and that

First, I'm on twitter. If you'd like to follow me, it is @Billy_Sea.
Didn't get on twitter soon enough to get BillySea but that's life :)

Here are some things I've learned about twitter over the past 6 months or so. There shouldn't be a lot of gems buried in here as most people on Twitter have a reason to be there already and already know how to use Twitter for their purposes.

I don't remember if it was @Drew, something @Drew retweeted, or just someone else who said it, but someone once posted that if someone tells you how to use twitter, then they just don't get twitter. I think that is true. I think if you don't have a "purpose" for twitter, you will start an account, and quickly let it just die off.

So, guess we should start with my purpose. My purpose is for music support. Many of my tweets deal with my music and more deal with the music of others that I know or come across. For the most part, very few of my "follower/friends" are people I know IRL but they are still part of my group. Any other tweets beyond music are just general chit-chat or the like. I like to tell jokes so one of my themes is comedy but I also have my causes. Two of my main causes currently are #BlameDrewsCancer (blamedrewscancer.com) and the situation in Iran.

So with the music part of the blog post out of the way, here are some general guidelines I use on twitter. I do not followback everyone. I really don't see the purpose of trying to keep up with what 1000's of people are saying. I suspect I will always keep the list of people I follow to around 300-500 people, more than that is just a fire hose and not a lot of fun. If you deal with music, I will likely follow you back, especially if you are on Reverbnation, FAWM.ORG or the 5090 songwriting forum. If you are a "real" person, family, or perhaps a fan, I will generally follow back as well. I will also follow if you have something important to say, or something I find amusing (most of these folks I follow first so there is no followback issue).

I really like supporting unsigned musicians (including myself) which is why I got on twitter in the first place. I would also like to think that I have a fan or two mixed in with my followers.

That's about it. Twitter is a lot of fun and I've met some very cool people there. I try not to abuse your friendship by filling up your screen with just me and I enjoy saying hi (just @Billy_Sea and I'll get back with you) :)

FEBRUARY ALBUM WRITING MONTH

Starting on February 1st of every year, there is a crazy songwriting challenge over at FAWM.ORG. FAWM stands for February Album Writing Month and the goal is to write 14 songs during the month. Even if you've never written a song before, you will soon realize that YOU CAN DO IT! If you just write lyrics or music, that is fine, if you don't want to/or can't upload a demo of your song, that is fine. There are very few rules, and the competition is only with yourself.

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, and could very well create songs that wouldn't have been written if you give it a go :)

BlameDrewsCancer.com

Drew Olanoff got cancer. He will tell you that he's done nothing, but he is modest. Drew got cancer but cancer didn't get Drew, it made him mad. If there is one person cancer should have left alone, it is Drew Olanoff. From the time Drew was diagnosed with cancer he started blaming stuff on it.

So why take the time to blog about it? Well, in case my second blog post is as far as SeasMostlyMusic goes, I want it to be on something that matters. Posting number 1 of ???

This is not my first Blog attempt. It will likely not be my last. I think the biggest problem I have is my blogging, like my music, refuses to be boxed up into a single theme. It is not that I don't want to share, it is just that I have a thought and think, that really doesn't fit my theme and the blog eventually just dies out from lack of being used.

This blog site, Sea's Mostly Music, is an acknowledgement that most of my topics will likely be about music and the creation of same, but that there are topics that just don't fit...and since this is mostly music, I will simply add them. I'm also quite fond of Twitter so if I happen to see a fun tweet or someone that I really enjoy following, I will share that with you as well. Finally, as I've grown as a songwriter, I've taken to channeling my muse towards those topics that interest me.

So my hopes are simple, that I will find things to write about on a regular basis, and that you might stop by from time to time and find something that I've posted interesting.
